Accelerated initial qualification
The accelerated initial qualification is a shorter version of the 'full' initial qualification and is also designed for those wishing to work in road transport who are entitled to drive on:
- Cat. C (or possibly C1) gained after 10 September 2009.
or
- Cat. D (or possibly D1) gained after 10 September 2008.
The accelerated initial qualification consists of 140 hours of teaching (130 hours theory and 10 hours practical - the practical part consists of 8 hours driving in urban traffic and 2 hours driving in special conditions, which can be replaced by 1 hour driving on a simulator).
Supplementary initial qualification
The supplementary initial qualification is intended for people who want to work in road transport but need both a lorry (cat C or C+E) and bus (cat D or D+E) qualification to do so
As with the "full" initial qualification, it is an option for people who do not have the required age for obtaining a driving licence (Cat C, CE or D, D+E) and have already completed the initial ("full") qualification for one of these category groups, then they can complete the supplementary qualification for the other category group.
The course includes 70 hours of tuition (65 hours theory and 5 hours practical).
Accelerated supplementary initial qualification
Accelerated supplementary initial qualification is a shorter version of the supplementary initial qualification. It is designed for people who need to be qualified for both heavy goods vehicles (Cat. C or C+E) and buses (Cat. D or D+E), and who have gained this qualification on:
- cat. C (or possibly C1) after 10 September 2009.
or
- cat. D (possibly D1) after 10 September 2008.
and for one of these categories they have already completed an initial ('full') qualification or an accelerated initial qualification - then for the second group of categories they only need to complete a supplementary qualification.
Accelerated supplementary initial qualification consists of 35 hours of teaching (32.5 hours theory and 2.5 hours practical).
Periodic training
Applicable to persons who:
- obtained the category C or C1 certificate by 10.09.2009 (inclusive)

Periodic training courses last 35 hours (31.5 hours of theoretical instruction and 3.5 hours of exercises or practical classes) and are conducted for category groups C/C1/C+E/C1+E or D/D1/D+E/D1+E.
